Iceland is the only part of Mid-Atlantic Ridge that rises above sea level, The interior consists of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains and glaciers, and numerous glaciers that empty into the sea through the lowlands. Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Stream and has a mild climate, despite its high latitude just outside the Arctic Circle. The high latitude and  influence of the sea keep the summers cool, and most of its islands have a polar climate.

~Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon~

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon - 
The Glacier lagoon in Iceland is close to highway number one, about 370 km (230 miles) east from Reykjavík and it is told to be one of the greatest wonders of nature in Iceland. This lagoon is a recent one, the result of a warming climate. The surface is at sea level and sea water flows into the lagoon at high tide.


How to get there : 
1. You can get to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon by driving a rented car or taking a guided tour. It is close to highway 1, right on the ring road between Höfn and Skaftafell.

2. The drive from Reykjavík is between 4 and a half and 5 hours and is a stunning journey.  From Vik, the drive is approximately 2 hours 20 mins, and just over an hour from Hofn.

~Golden Circle~

Golden Circle, The entire Golden Circle direction can without problems be achieved in a single day, because the conventional adventure covers round 230 kilometres (a hundred and forty miles to you and me). You can surely pressure the direction in only over three hours


How to get there : 
1. You can join a Golden Circle group tour, but you may prefer to explore at your own pace and  style with a self-guided tour. To do this, you will need to rent a car or SUV if you plan to drive further into the Icelandic Highlands.

~Blue Lagoon~

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

Blue Lagoon, The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal resort located in the southwest of Iceland. The resort is located in a lava field near Grindavik, opposite Mount Torbjörn on the Reykjanes Peninsula,  a favorable area for the use of geothermal energy, watered by  the nearby Svarchengi geothermal power plant.


How to get there : 
1. by car The Blue Lagoon is easily accessible from the main highway between Keflavik and Reykjavik. Follow Hwy 41 to Hwy 43 and follow  signs to Blue Lagoon. Parking is free.

2. The Blue Lagoon is about 50 minutes from Reykjavik and 20 minutes  from Keflavik Airport (Iceland's main international airport). Therefore, the most popular time for visitors to visit the Blue Lagoon is often on the way to and from the airport, as a day trip from Reykjavik, or as part of a Golden Circle day trip.

~Húsavík~
Húsavík, Iceland

Húsavík, Husavik is Iceland's oldest settlement and the largest city in the Jingeyarsisla region and a nearby service centre. The city is famous for whale watching tours in Skjalfandi Bay and is often referred to as Iceland's whale capital.

How to get there :
1. Driving to Husavik is extremely easy if you are traveling from Reykjavik. All you need to do is get onto the Ring Road and follow it to Akureyri.

2. When you drive past this town you will need to take a left turn onto a bridge that crosses a bay. This is how you know you’re close. Follow this way until you reach road 85 and continue to head north. From here you will find a right turn straight into Husavik.

~Skaftafell~

skaftafell - is the wilderness of Vatnajökull National Park in Iceland. Large glaciers include Skaftafellsjökull and Svinafellsjökull. The trail leads to the Svartifoss waterfall, which flows across Mount Christinartindar and black basalt columns. The Morsardalur Valley and Boyarstadarskogur Forest are to the west. To the east, Orfajökull Volcano is famous for its towering ice-capped Hvannadalshunukur peaks.

How to get there :
1. Skaftafell Hotel is a short drive from Vik, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Hebna. The best way  to get to the park is undoubtedly by renting a car or campervan. The park is easily accessible off the ring road and leads to a large car park along Route 998.

~Fagradalsfjall Volcano~

Fagradalsfjall - is the thuja volcano formed during the last ice age of the Reykjanes Peninsula, about 40 km from Reykjavik, Iceland. Fagradalsfjall is also the name of a wider volcanic system covering 5 km wide and 15 km long between the Svarzengi and Krisuvik systems.

How to get there :
1. The Fagradalsfjall volcano is 32 kilometres (20 miles) away from Reykjavík, which is around 1 hour by car. After you reach the car park, it's a 3-4 hour round-trip walk to reach the volcano itself.

~Dettifoss Waterfall~
Dettifoss Waterfall, Iceland

Dettifoss Waterfall, is a waterfall in Vatnajökull National Park in northeastern Iceland, considered the second most powerful waterfall in Europe after the Rhine Falls. Dettifoss is located on the Jokulsa a Fjellum River, which flows from the Vatnajokull glacier and collects water from a large area in northeast Iceland.

How to get there :
1. Route 862 from Ásbyrgi: to reach Dettifoss from the north of Iceland, it's a 45 minute drive on Route 862. The road is semi-paved and usually open from June to the end of September.

2. Route 862 from Reykjahlid: if you're staying in Reykjahlid, drive along the Ring Road to Route 862, which you'll take for another 25 minutes until reaching Dettifoss car park. This section of the road may even be closed in summer, so always check the state of the roads in advance.

3. Route 864: while normally open from the end of May until the beginning of October, this road is only suitable for off-road vehicles.

~Vatnajökull~
Vatnajökull, Iceland

Vatnajökull - is Iceland's largest and largest ice cap, and the second largest in  Europe after  Severny Island in Novaya Zemlya. It is located in the southeast of the island and occupies about 8% of the country.

How to get there :
1. From Reykjavik, catch the 72 bus in the direction of Flúðir. After 45 minutes you would get off at Selfoss.

2. Take the 51 bus from Selfoss to Vík í Mýrdal. This will take 1hr 45 mins.

3. Finally, from Vík í Mýrdal you take the 51 bus in the direction of Höfn í Hornafirði, arriving at Skaftafell after around 2 hours.

~Fjaðrárgljúfur~
fjaðrárgljúfur, Iceland

fjaðrárgljúfur - is a canyon in the southeast of Iceland. The  river Fjadra flows. The canyon has steep walls and meandering water. The depth is up to 100 m  and the length is about 2 km.

How to get there :
1. The easiest way  to get to Fjadrargljufur is by renting a car or van. 4 wheel drive is not necessary, and if it is 2 wheel drive, it is absolutely fine even if the 2km end of the road is gravel, but in  winter  the road can be slippery due to snow, so be careful and  consider the conditions realistically and do not go near the edge. A way to avoid slipping in the ditch.
